Finding A Bill: A step by step guide.
In order to find a bill it is helpful to know the bill number (HBXXX/SBXXX), sponsor/co-sponsor, or subject.
If you do know the bill number:
1) On the MLIS website there is a field to insert the bill number. If you enter HB 1, a separate screen will appear.
2) You have now pulled up the bill's page, on this page you will find the bill's status and the actual text of the bill (a brief synopsis will also be shown).
If you know the sponsor of the legislation/subject:
1) On the MLIS website you will see "Indexes of Bills by:"
2) Click sponsor or subject
3) Here you will see a drop box
4) Select the subject or individual and click select
5) You have now pulled up the bill's page, on this page you will find the bill's status and the actual text of the bill (a brief synopsis will also be shown).

What is a cross-file?
A cross-file refers to a bill's counterpart in another chamber, for instance HB1 is cross-filed with SB2.
