Part 2 - Incredibly Shrinking Press Corps 3-3-09
Along the lines of our earlier post on this topic, Marc Fisher of the Washington Post in his column this past weekend lamented how the average voter has fewer and fewer options for receiving general coverage of state legislative issues. He notes this problem exists not only in Annapolis but also in Richmond and documents the decline in Maryland by quoting former AP reporter Tom Stuckey that "the number of reporters covering Maryland's legislature has 'declined by a good half in the last two years.'"
Thus the predictment arises for the average voter: "Where do I turn for coverage of the Maryland General Assembly?"
Political junkies in Maryland know that the The Gazette of Politics and Business published every Friday by The Gazette provides the most thorough coverage of the Maryland General Assembly. The Gazette publishes weekly community newspapers serving Montgomery, Frederick and Prince George's counties in Maryland. The Gazette of Politics and Business is a subscription-based weekend edition that provides comprehensive coverage of Maryland political and legislative issues. Two long-time Annapolis observers, Blair Lee IV and Barry Rascovar, write weekly columns on the "inside skinny" in Annapolis offering a unique perspective on state issues.
