President Obama's Job Creation Numbers Called "Hokum" 2-25-09
Governor Martin O'Malley is featured prominently in a Fox News investigation into the process used to document job creation numbers under the federal stimulus legislation. The budget reports showing the amount of funding coming to Maryland are accompanied by figures that indicate the number of new jobs to be created under the federal spending programs.
At press conferences announcing state spending through federal stimulus funds, Governor O'Malley religiously refers to the federal figures for the creation of new jobs. But where do these figures come from?
Brian Wilson of Fox News attempts to track the sources for these figures but discovers only broad disclaimers of potential disparity in the job creation numbers. Moreover, economist Peter Morici questions the legitimacy of the claims of new job creation and describes the federal numbers as "hokum."
