In a time-honored tradition, Senator Richard F. Colburn (District 37) will deliver the annual Lincoln Day Address on the floor of the Senate Chamber at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 12, 2009.

This year marks the occasion of the 200th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth. On February 12, 1809, Lincoln was born to Thomas Lincoln and Nancy Hanks in a one-room log cabin in Hardin County, Kentucky.

Senator Colburn's remarks will examine how Lincoln's humble origins are viewed as a fundamental influence on the political philosophy of our 16th President.  He will also comment on the political relationship between Lincoln and Eastern Shore native Frederick Douglass and how that relationship drove national policy on emancipation during Lincoln's presidency.
