Speed Camera Bill Signed Today - Petition Drive Ongoing to Overturn State-Wide Use 5/09
Being the politician who always tries to straddle the fence, Governor O’Malley today declared that he is “agnostic” towards the referendum effort to defeat the statewide use of speed cameras in Maryland. (See Baltimore Sun article – click here)
What does that mean?
Apparently, it is intended to confuse the public as to whether O'Malley supports or opposes the use of speed cameras.
In the face of widespread voter discontent over speed cameras, he wants to absolve himself of credit for the bill that he signed today even though he put the bill in – Senate Bill 277 was a legislative initiative sponsored by the Administration.
Moreover, he wants to absolve himself of any blame should the citizens be given a voice through the process of referendum and outright reject the statewide use of speed cameras.
